Assignment 3 - Critique Kiera Faber

Kiera Faber:  Completely Human

Kiera Faber's exhibit at the University Gallery represents a physical and psychological journey into the human condition, where images of intense and sometimes tortured sexuality confront the viewer.

The strongest image is Tree where strong design elements draw the viewers eye into the scene.
Kiera's leaning position onto the tree creates a triangular pyramid shape which creates a dynamic image and conjunction with the blood red fabric confining her body.  The image suggests confinement, torture, and possibly death.  Is Kiera the victim by someone else's hand or her own?  The image shows no struggle and it makes me question what's really happening here.  She looks like she has surrendered to this confined position.

The weakest image in the exhibit is Bathroom.  The image of her shoulders and head draping over a bathtub where her face is not visible and showing just her hair is not as demonstrative of the control, confinement, and torture in the other photographs.

I thought the large presentation of the photographs fit the overall theme of intense and disturbing  information bombarding the viewer.  It created a feeling of being overwhelmed and uncomfortable.
